Trying to install Windows 7 beta from an iso and it reaches 'Expanding files' and hangs there forever at 0%. Have tried creating the vm as both Vista and Server 2008, both hang at the same point.
Ok I have noticed alot of people have had problems with this myself included, and the answer is almost too simple. The problem I was having was once I got to the expanding files step it would get to 89% within a few minutes. Then it would hang for hours stuck at 89%.
I tried restarting the installation 4 times. The first time it only got to 9% and stalled. So on my fourth attempt after watching it hang for a good 2 hours I ejected the installation disk in the middle of installation and popped in another another Windows 7 RC installation disk that I forgot I had just to see what would happen. What happened is it immediately finished expanding from 89% and the installation was complete in about 20 minutes. I should note that the first installation disk I was trying was a Memorex that had just been pulled from a jewel case prior to burning. The second disk I used was a Verbatim that had been burned some time ago and was actually pretty scratched up.
Both of the disks where burned using the same.iso downloaded from MSDN using the same burner and ImgBurn as the burning software. Hope this helps some people. Ya i had 2 discs both containing the iso i dl from digital river.
I have the student version of windows 7. I made a disc containing the iso and burned it at 4x then i tried it and got an 8xo error.
So then i made a disc containing the same iso but i burned it at 3x. This got the expanding files to 39% then i switched out the 3x and put in the 4x and got the expanding files to 68% so then i switched out the discs again. For some reason installation was getting hung up but when you swapped the discs windows installation was able to expand the files. Having trouble installing Win7 Pro-64bit on an Apple MacBook Pro Retina; every time it gets stuck at Extracting Windows Files (65%). To install Windows, I have followed the official Apple instructions (and in short, I have used BootCamp to create the USB install files from an ISO (Which has worked on Windows PCs before). The MBP has rebooted and Windows installation has started, prompting for the usual Language and Keyboard settings. I have then formatted the partition of the hard drive and the installation process has begun.
Copying Windows files works fine but as I say it gets stuck at Extracting Windows Files (65%). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
For Info: The MBP has only got USB3.0 ports. I have used a USB2.0 stick, a USB2.0 hard drive and a USB3.0 stick. All have had exactly the same outcome.
I have tried different sized partitions from 20GB to 70GB. All have had exactly the same outcome. I have tried following some articles online regarding changing the 'boot.wim' file to include the USB3.0 drivers to overcome that issue but this doesn't seem to have made a difference. Apple tell me that as the partition has been created and the Windows installation has started, that it must be a Windows issue not Apple. All help welcome.
